Introduction to Graduate School

       Shenyang Pharmaceutical University began to enroll postgraduates in 1956. Since the resumption of the education of postgraduates in 1978 our university has been one of the units which was authorized in the first batch by the Academic Degree Commission of the State Council to confer doctor's degree and master's degree to students and to carry out the work earlier that those people at their posts and with the same educational level could ask for master's degrees and to examine and approve supervisors of doctorial students by itself. The University has doctor's degree-conferring gift in the first class of disciplines which also covers the whole 2nd class of 6 disciplines (pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmacology, pharmacognocy, microbiology, biochemical pharmacy) . The university has master's degree- conferring gift to the first class of disciplines of traditional Chinese medicines, and to business administration. There is one mobile research institute for postdoctors of pharmacy in the university and a working station for postdoctors of enterprises. In 1996 with the approval of the Ministry of Education a National Training Base (medicine and pharmacy) of Basic Science Research of Science Subjects and Teaching Talents was run as an experiment. In 1997 the university began to enroll students of joined study of undergraduate- master- doctoral degrees.
  There are many well-known exerts and scholars in the University. There is an over 200 professors and associate professors. A batch of Engineering aged or young teachers with outstanding achievements in scientific research and teaching work have replenished the contingent of tutors of postgraduates. Now there are nearly 30 supervises of doctorial students and over 100 tutors of postgraduates. In 2001 the university enrolled 217 postgraduates, 71 doctorial students and 150 students who attend the lectures for postgraduates and undertake advanced studies. The university has trained over 800 postgraduates and fostered large numbers of excellent pharmaceutical talents. Among them 4 postgraduates have won the science fund of national outstanding youth. Pei Gang, a postgraduate of the 81st grade has been elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
  In the course of education of the degree and postgraduates the University all along places emphasis on quality, actively probes the educational reform of postgraduates, explores the managing and training way of "entering leniently and graduating strictly", establishes thesystem of diligently studying for doctor's degrees beforehand, jointly studying for master's and doctor's degrees and training postgraduates in cooperation with scientific research units and engaging tutors of postgraduates from other universities or scientific research organizations, optimizes the training process, enforces the construction of curriculum system and strengthens the spirit of bringing new ideas and trains actuarial ability. The university will give priority to the development of the education of postgraduates. This is considered as the focal point in the course of the tenth Five-Year Plan. We are determined to work harder to build the university into a training base of high-level, high stratum and creative pharmaceutical talents.
