School of Traditional Chinese Medicines

    The school consists of the department of chemistry of natural drugs and the department of traditional Chinese medicines. The department of traditional Chinese medicines is composed of the teaching and researching section of pharmacognocy, the teaching and researching section of evaluation and analysis of Chinese patent medicines, the teaching and researching section of medicinal botany and a botanical gardern of medicinal herbs. The Research Center of Engineering and Technique of Natural Drugs of the Former SPAC, the Key Laboratory of the Quality Standards of Traditional Chinese Medicines, etc. are all at tached to the School.
    The number of the teaching and administrative staff is 60. Among them there are 11 professors, 17 associate professors, senior engineers and associate research fellows, 22 lecturers and engineers. Among them there is also one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, one expert and consultant of the "Industrial Development Organization of the United Nations", 14 teachers who have obtained the Doctor's degrees. Those who have been doctors and are studying for a doctorate have covered 40% of the whole members of the school. There are 21 tutors of postgraduates. There are 10 supervisors of doctorial students.
    In each year the School enrolls over 180 .undergraduate students. Now there are 550 students. There are degree-conferring units of medicinal chemistry, pharmacognosy and traditional Chinese medicines. All the disciplines of the school have the doctor degree- conferring gifts and there is a postdoctoral research center. Now the school enrolls over 40 postgraduates and over 20 doctorial students.
    The scientific research contingent is complete and there is a denoe academic research atmosphere and the research achieve-ments are considerable. It also undertook 4 projects of the National Scaling Plan, the National 973 High and New Basic Research Project and the National Fund of Natural Science. All together 1500 academic papers have beem published. Among them 69 papers have been cited by SCI, 126 person -time attended and chaired over various international symposia, delivered reports and lectures so as to win honour for our country and the university. The school participated in publishing over 60 teaching materials and monographs(as editors -in - chief of over 10 books) . Over 20 national patents or certificates of new drugs have been applied or gained. Over 50 prizes for scientific and technical achievements from the State, Province or City have been gained. At present teachers and scientific research personnel have established close cooperative relations with experts and scholors of over 20 countries such as Japan, America, Italy, France, Germany, Australia and Korea and experts and scholors from areas of Hong Kong and Taiwan. Every year the school sends students studying abroad to study abroad and senior visitors to engage in advanced studies abroad and receive large numbers of experts and soholors from home and foreign countries and foreign students as well.
